New Arrivals, Apprentices, and Friends (Clan Meeting #1)

Lynxstar awoke early, on the day that she had chosen for the first apprentice ceremony in the Clan. There was but one kit, Mintkit, but she and her mother had adjusted well to Clan life, and Lynxstar knew they were a good fit for LynxClan. The she-cat had already decided who would mentor each of the new apprentices, including Hornet and Dawn, and she had also decided on all her Clan's warrior names. These things needed to be sorted out, quickly, so that everycat was ready for whatever got thrown in their way. LynxClan might me a smaller Clan, but they would show the others that they weren't all pushovers. ESPECIALLY BlizzardClan and NightClan. Lynxstar padded into the center of their caves and yowled out, leaping onto a few boulders that were perfectly placed.

"I call all cats who can understand the tongue of the lynx to join me under the Settlement Peak, so that we may have a Clan meeting!" She waited for her Clan to gather beneath her, smiling at all the familiar faces. The back of her mind wondered how the kits she had the other day, the ones she had abandoned, would ever get to see a Clan meeting like this. She quickly banished that thought, though, because thinking about those kits would endanger the Clan. "I'm sure you have all noticed that we are very... lacking in warrior names. And several of our cats have only a partial role in Clan life-- Hornet and Dawn should be apprentices, but they are trying to take on the role of warriors. I intend to fix these issues today, as well as the issue of a council. My decision alone is flawed, and so I have decided to gather a group of you, so that I may run my decisions by you at any given point in time, and work out the flaws." Lynxstar gave the cats time to gather now, watching the Clan she had brought together with pride.

[Firefly]

The large muscular brown and white snowshoe cat slowly padded out from his den with his head held high and his tail even higher. As he completely exited the den he sunk his claws i the rock and stretched baring his fangs as he did so. A shiver ran down his spine as he stretched. Standing up he shook himself than padded over to where Lynxstar had called a meeting. He wrapped his tail around his front paws wondering what the meeting was about. It wasn't long before he found out as she began to talk about making cats apprentices, giving warrior names and making some kind of council. He wondered what his warrior name might be hopefully something strong and fierce. He also wondered if he would get one of the three mentioned cats as an apprentice. He couldn't wait to hear all about it.

Hornet heard the cry to gather just as he came into camp with two mice carried in his jaws. He had left early to go hunting on his own. He loved the mountains but not right now outside the cave system it was down pouring and the wind was really strong he nearly got blown off his feet a couple times. Its why he chose to return early fearing the ind my get worse he grabbed his two kills and returned. It was a good thing he did because just as he entered he heard Lynxstar's call to gather. He hurried to the freshkill pile and dropped his kills before running to sit next to Frost with ears pricked. He watched Lynxstar waiting to hear what was going on. He blinked as she mentioned him and Dawn, though it was true he was doing his best to help the clan going out hunting at all hours of the day to make sure the clan had food. He wasn't a great hunter in fact he barely caught those two mice. One he had grabbed by the tail and managed to pull back out of it's den as it darted in and the second well hat had been pure luck that he had caught let alone seen that one it darted out right in front of him as he chased a rabbit. He quickly killed it but by the time he finished it the rabbit was gone. Becoming an apprentice sounded good if it taught him how to better hunt so he could help his clan more.

Vixen lay in the nursery curled around Mint sound asleep. She still wasn't one hundred percent sure about this but if it kept Mint safe and alive that was all that mattered. Eventually she was awoken by the call to gather. She yawned and blinked her eyes open before nudging Mint with her nose and than starting to clean her. This was a special day, Lynxstar had told her she would be made an apprentice today. "We need you to look your best my little one. Today is an important day." Once she was sure Mint was clean she nudged her again and than headed out of the nursery leading the way. As she stepped out she saw two others already gathered round. She sat down just outside the nursery waiting for Mint to come out. She was proud of her to be made an apprentice but at the same time she feared for her safety. Anyone could easily tell she was nervous by the constant flick of her tail and her eyes darting from Lynxstar to her kit and back.

He’d gone out to patrol the borders earlier, and now – as of about half an hour ago – he was back. He was still working on grooming his fur when Lynxstar gave the call for them to gather, and he joined his clanmates near her, waiting to hear what she had to say.

He’d had his suspicions, of course, and those ended up being right. She mentioned names and apprentices, and his ears perked. That was right…they were certainly big enough to start learning. He kept his focus on Lynxstar, but he couldn’t help but wonder if one of the soon-to-be apprentices would be assigned to him. He hoped so, though he’d accept any decision Lynxstar made. She knew best.

Mint was awake and playing with some moss-balls when the leader-- her name was Lynxstar, right? --Well, anyways, she could understand most of what the lynx-creature Nira said, so should she go with Mommy? Oh! Oh, everyone else was gathering there. The Maple-shecat and the Hornet-tom were going. Mint wanted to follow them, but wasn't sure if that would be right... there was Mommy. Mommy would know what to do. And apparently, she was supposed to-- aww, gross! Did she HAVE to clean Mint? 

"Mommy! I can clean myself, silly!" She remarked, trying to get out from under her mother. So it was a special day... did that mean what she thought it meant? The leader-Lynxstar had said something about 'apprentices' in the call to meet. Was Mint finally gonna get a mentor? She hoped it would be the Blazeblizzard-deputy, or the Frost-tom! They both looked really strong, and they were nice to her, and they weren't as big and scary as the Lynxstar-leader! When she was clean, she bounded after her mother into the clearing, smiling as she looked at the Lynxstar-leader. Maybe today really was gonna be a good day! She was gonna get a mentor, and they really were joining the Clan-- this was exciting.

Dawn padded back into camp after her brother, having caught one snow hare. It had put up a good fight, and Dawn had spent the entire time they were out trying to catch it, even so she would need to grab some cobwebs for a scrape on her stomach. No matter, anyways, it was a shallow scratch-- and there was no time to worry about it anyway. Lynxstar was calling a meeting! The little she-cat put her prey down on the small pile they had going, and sat next to her brother quietly. Her head rested on his shoulder as she watched Lynxstar.

Oh, apprentices! That would be... amazing! Dawn was no good at fighting, and her hunting could use some work, this would be a great way to be a better warrior. She had known that trying to be a warrior when the other cats were so much older and stronger than she and Hornet were was pointless, and she had known there would be a breaking point. This ceremony was going to be important. And she and Hornet were complete messes! They were wet and ruffled, and she was bleeding, oh StarClan did it HAVE to come today, with no warning? She tried to lick down some of her fur, cleaning herself the best she could, before there was a call again from Lynxstar.

Lynxstar smiled when her warriors-- and Mint, and Hornet, and Dawn --gathered beneath her. She held herself a little taller, and puffed out her fur to be a little more official. Oh, the poor little ones Hornet and Dawn had been out hunting as usual. Lynxstar felt kind of... really bad for them? Like, they were younger than she had been when she was in her first storm, and she remembered how terrified she was. Her mother had forced her to hunt for herself during that storm. Which started Lynxstar trying to get away from her. She waited a few more moments before she began.

"I will speak on names first, as they will be important in the upcoming ceremony. I will not perform the warrior ceremony, simply because I already respect each of you as a warrior, this is merely giving you proper names. Will the following cats please step forward? Frost. Vixen. And Maple." The leader waited for her friends and warriors to step forward, in order to give them their true names. "I thought long and hard about this. Frost, your true name will be Frostfang; in honor of your bravery and strength. Maple, you will be Mapleheart, in honor of your spirit and pure opinions. And Vixen, you are to be Snowleap, for your kind nature and your skill in climbing." She leaped down to touch the shoulder of each of her warriors, murmuring a small message to them each in turn about how they'd make wonderful warriors.

Vixen purred softly when Mint said she could clean herself. "I know sweetie I'm just so excited and happy for you. I'm so proud of you Mint." She sighed softly she felt like she was loosing her baby even though they would just be in different dens she still felt like Mint was leaving her forever. "Ok lets go," with that Vixen turned and headed out of the nursery taking a seat just outside of the nursery not sure where she would fit in now. From the time they joined she had always been in the nursery with Mint. Her eyes widened in shock when her name was called. She stepped forward confused, she thought of her as a warrior already? She blinked when she was given a new name completely. She was no longer Vixen but Snowleap. It took a minute but eventually she smiled and purred with a nod of her head. When Lynxstar touched her shoulder she smiled not sure what she was supposed to do so instead she whispered softly, "thank you."

(Maple isn't here she hasn't returned yet after falling off the cliff and into the river on the way back from delivering the kits to Eclipse)

Blazeblizzard purred in amusement at the kit’s protest, but his attention focused on Dawn when she walked in. It looked like she had a stomach wound, and his whiskers twitched downward in a sort of frown. That was never good…but she was walking normally and seemed both unconcerned and clearheaded. She wasn’t leaving a massive trail of blood, either, even if she was bleeding somewhat.

Lynxstar started talking, summoning Frost, Vixen, and Maple forward. He listened to her words and called out the new names at the appropriate point. They’d certainly earned it, and he was proud of them in his own way. He wondered how their lives would go from here, as well as the rest of the clan. Even in the safety of a group, things were never quite certain.
