~*~StormClan~*~
RiverClan Reborn
StormClan is situated in what used to be RiverClan territory, though the borders may not be exact. The cats here good swimmers, and those that join without knowing how to handle themselves in water quickly learn. The clan was founded by a cat named Shell (now Shellstar), in the hopes of reviving the old clan ways. Having only heard a few legends, though, she can only borrow a pawful of rules and go by her own best judgment for the rest. Until stated otherwise, everyone who wishes to join StormClan is welcome. The more cats we have working together, the more powerful and capable we'll be.
~*~Powers~*~
Swimming: The cats of this clan learn to swim pretty quickly, and even develop an advantage for it. Once a cat has shared tongues with StarClan, they sleep through the night, waking up to pain in their paws. A quick look at the spread toes will reveal webbing on cats that don't already have it, making their paws somewhat otter-like.Waterkinesis: Cats gradually develop this soon after their first StarClan meeting. The general rule is that the older you are, the more powerful you become, though stamina plays a part in how long you can keep it up. Cats with this ability can will the water to move around them, temporarily influencing the current to push them to shore, slow down their enemies or prey, or whatever else they can think of. They can make the water push them upward, effectively making them able to run along the surface of the lake if they wanted. They can even pull water out of the streams, lake, etc. using only their minds, forming a bubble in the air that they can then launch at an enemy to distract them (no matter how powerful they are, they can't use this to drown someone or even really hurt them). Decently-practiced cats can even influence the rainfall. They can't make it rain or stop raining, of course, but they can will the rain in a given area to move a certain way, keeping vital dens from being washed away or trapped cats from drowning. It should be noted that this power works specifically on liquid water - snow, ice, and vapor are beyond this StormClan specific ability. As stated before, this ability runs on stamina. As soon as a cat's stamina is drained, they are completely worn out, and the water resumes flowing the way nature intended. A careless cat can easily drown this way, or make themselves vulnerable to attack or the elements.
Storm Prediction: After these cats have met with StarClan, they also gain the ability to know when the skies are going to open up on them and how bad it's going to be, giving them time to prepare. Unfortunately, a lot of this power comes through scent (it's basically a somewhat beefed-up version of what animals already have), making it harder to track prey. Particularly strong storms can also affect a cat's sense of balance.
~*~Religion~*~
For the most part, cats are free to follow whatever faith they wish (with a few exceptions). The official faith of StormClan, however, is StarClan, and all the ceremonies will be StarClan-based. Their belief may be a bit different from what we have in the canon material, though. This is because Shellstar simply doesn't know everything about the clans and has to figure things out as she goes.As of now, what is known about the old beliefs is that cats who die after living good (or at least neutral) lives become star-pelted spirits living in StarClan, up in the sky above the territory. There are cats there now - those that once belonged to the living clans that have since died out. These cats watch over the living and often give them guidance or warnings, as well as their powers. They can also give prophecies, though none have been given so far.
~*~Warrior Code~*~
1. Defend your clanmates at all costs. Friendships outside the clan are allowed and even encouraged, but your priority must always be StormClan.2. Hunt only in StormClan territory (the lake counts as ours, as long as you've entered it from StormClan's quarter).
3. Unless a temporary exception is in play, the hunting-capable (leader, deputy, warriors, and apprentices at least seven moons old) must not take from the fresh-kill pile until they have done at least one patrol for the day. An apprentice assigned caretaker duty may be excused from this, though they must perform the task they were assigned before they can feed.
4. Respect all prey creatures, and be thankful for the meal their deaths provide. Kill only to provide food for your clanmates, and do not allow kits (or anyone) to play with the corpses. Even the smallest smelt or shrew had a life and spirit worth honoring.
5. On full moon nights, the clan must gather at the center of the camp and commune with the stars. This event takes the place of a multi-clan gathering until actual multi-clan gatherings are established (if they ever are).
6. On half moon nights, the senior medicine cat must share tongues with StarClan to learn of any warnings their ancestors may wish to share. Any other medicine cats in the clan may accompany them if they wish, though leaving one fully-trained medicine cat in the camp at all times is encouraged.
9. Leaders, deputies, warriors, and apprentices must go on at least one patrol daily (this may be upped to two). Hunting patrols can take place at any time, but there must be border patrols every sunrise, sunhigh, sunset, and moonhigh. Caretaker warriors are usually excepted, though the able-bodied ones maybe called on in leaner times.
10. Warriors must help any kit they see in trouble, even if it means crossing into another clan's territory. They must also help apprentices and adult cats if they can do so safely.
11. The leader's word is law, unless their word violates an established rule of the code. Having said that, the code is subject to additions and exceptions, as needed.
12. Respect your clanmates. All of them - from the leader to the youngest kit.
13. A cat's choice in mate is their own business. Cats of StormClan may take a mate of the same gender, or multiple mates if everyone involved consents to it. They can even take a mate outside the clan, if they wish, as long as they remain loyal to StormClan first and foremost. Medicine cats are also allowed a mate or mates of their choosing, but they must not let the relationship get in the way of healing their clan.
14. Those that wish to leave StormClan are free to do so, but they will not be welcomed back unless they can pass a test to prove their newfound loyalty.
15. Killing another cat is forbidden unless it is an accident in battle or in defense of self or others. Any cat who kills or even attempts to kill needlessly will be exiled.
16. Apprentices must visit the Moonpool before they become warriors, to meet with their warrior ancestors.
~*~Ranks~*~
Leader: The head of the clan, the leader has the final say in all important decisions. They also determine if the clan should go to war or try to make peace, stay in the territory or move, give up a section of land or fight for it, etc. There is only one leader in a clan, and when the leader is gone the current deputy takes over. When a cat becomes leader, they lose their suffix and gain "--star" instead.Deputy: The second-in-command and first in line for leader once something happens to the former leader. The deputy organizes patrols and deals with minor disputes between clanmates, taking major disputes to the leader. There is only one deputy in a clan, and when they become leader they must choose a new deputy as soon as possible.
Medicine Cats: Cats that see to the health of the clan. They heal the sick and wounded and help queens deliver their kits. They must have vast knowledge in herblore and a strong connection with StarClan, since they also double as clan priest. The old clans usually had one medicine cat, but StormClan will allow for two at a time, plus their apprentices (meaning there can be up to four at times). In StormClan, a medicine cat gains the "--moon" suffix.
Warriors: The bulk of the clan. The Warriors rank will be divided into subranks as more cats join, but for now a warrior is any adult cat who has proven their competence in looking after the clan. Their duties include border patrols, hunting patrols, guarding the camp, and training the apprentices.
~*~Senior Warriors: Cats at least 60 moons with a good amount of experience in taking care of the clan. They are given priority in apprentice assignments and patrol leadership, and often the leader turns to them for advice. This subrank is inclusive - a cat can be both a senior warrior and a hunter, for example.
~*~Hunters: Warriors with a specialty in hunting or fishing. These warriors are assigned to hunting patrols most often, and only go into battle when there aren't enough fighters or when the camp is attacked.
~*~Fighters: Warriors with a specialty in fighting. These warriors are assigned to border patrols and guard duty most often, and only go out to hunt when there aren't enough hunters to do the job.
~*~Caretakers: Warriors who are lackluster in both fighting and hunting (or those who received a crippling injury that keeps them from performing normal duties) may look after the clan in other ways. Depending on their mobility, these cats may join the apprentices in changing out bedding for the nursery and elders' den, sort through the freshkill pile and take any crow food out of the camp to be safely buried, assist the medicine cat in gathering herbs or other duties that don't require a lot of herblore knowledge, look after kits when their mothers need a break, reinforce dens, ensure that the dirt place doesn't get too full...anything they can think of that might improve the lives of their clanmates.
~*~(Other subranks to be made available depending on how roleplay goes.)
Apprentice: Kits that have come of age become apprentices and are assigned to a specific warrior responsible for their training. This warrior must be active and present, or their apprentice will be reassigned to someone more available (this could be temporary or permanent, depending on the situation). When an apprentice has trained for around six moons, their abilities are assessed. If they pass, they get to become warriors. If they fail, they must continue training for a moon and try again.
Kits: young cats five moons old or younger. These cats have no real responsibility, and are looked after by all the queens in the clan.
Elders: Old cats that have aged beyond the ability to care for their clan. They get to spend their remaining days in relative comfort, and are taken care of by the rest of the clan.
Queens: A temporary position for she-cats that are pregnant or nursing. Their job is to look after themselves and their kits.
